First day in La Paz

We are in La Paz, Bolivia. After a long flight we arrived at about 5:20 this morning. A taxi met us at the airport and brought us to Ritz Apart Hotel. We have stayed in all day because of the political election. Here are some pictures of our room and the views from our 9th floor windows.

Bolvia Facts

Bolivia is located in the center of South America and is surrounded by Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile. The people of Bolivia speak Spanish and are very humble because Bolivia is one of the poorest countries in South America. In Bolivia there are: 163,119 members, 24 stakes, 165 wards, 82 branches, 3 missions, and 1 temple (located in Cochabamba). About 1 in every 60 people are LDS.

Our First 13 Months We Were in La Paz, Bolivia
La Paz is located in the Western part of the country at an elevation of 11,975 feet. The city is 182.2 sq. miles and is a "bowl" surrounded by the high mountains of the altiplano. Average yearly temperatures range from 45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. The population of La Paz is 877,363. La Paz is home to some of the biggest soccer teams in Bolivia.

Our Last 5 Months We Will Be Temple Workers in the Cochabamba, Bolivia Temple.
This temple was dedicated November 10, 1996 by Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley. It was the first temple built in Bolivia. Easily visible from the temple is the Cristo de la Concordia (Christ of Peace) statue atop San Pedro Hill. It is the largest statue of Christ in the world.
